Whether in the studio or remote we can capture your music tracks for later editing and mixing. The studio is equipped with 24 input channels at 48KHz. Many of these are preassigned (e.g. Booth Vocal, Booth Instrument, and 12 drum channels). This allows for the use of templates in the DAW. A big time saves since the tracks and channels are all set up.

Our mobile system has 32 channels and can be configured on the fly for your specific event.

We highly emphasize the importance of rehearsing the song parts, preferable with a metronome so that time is not wasted on endless takes in the studio. While a click track is not essential we recommend it and regardless it’s good practice to use one when rehearsing individual parts.

Recording Methods

There’s no hard fast set of rules for how to record a song. My preferred method is track by track but it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s ultimately up to the client but track by track with a scratch mix (guitar and voice) recorded to a click track is often a good way to start. Drums, bass  and other instruments are added one at a time and the scratch tracks are eventually replaced with vocals recorded in the booth and guitars recorded separately. This method ensures that the takes of each track are lined up on the grid allowing for quick comping of the best parts from each take during editing.

There’s other ways to accomplish the same thing, without using a click. For my own band Sissiboo, we put our singer in the booth to record his scratch and we capture the drums at the same time. Our drummer has excellent meter and we rehearse extensively before recording. Once we have the drums and scratch recorded we add bass, redo the rhythm guitar, and vocal and then add lead guitar. Again, the takes line up on he grid.

Bluegrass is popular in our area and bluegrass musicians prefer a live off the floor with one condenser mic in omni mode that they gather around. Sometimes a couple of pencil condensers are set up either side for solos. The entire song has to be captured in one take so rehearsing is important. Our studio space is perfect for this technique. The acoustic treatments provide just the right amount of ambience to the recording.

Live off the floor for a full band is where it gets tricky. This has to be done  in a big room. We have an arrangement with a local event venue that has a lovely large room with a hunting lodge vibe and perfect acoustics. This would be an additional charge to secure the space.
